This is a very exciting time for me! I am just returning to work after taking a much needed vacation. Everything seems “new” and “different”...I love it!

I am a children and baby expert!

I estimate that by the end of 2008 I will have photographed close to 800 infants and small children...in just 6 years! Photographing babies and small children requires a bit of child psychology and ALOT of patience. Parents are often amazed at my determination to get “the shot”. When I’m with children I totally disappear to another place...a place that is all about getting the best images of your child. I can “read” and appeal to about 90-95% of children that are placed in fron of my camera. The other 5-10% wear me and their parents out during a session, but I’m determined to “win”.

What happened to your Year to Remember baby plan?

I still offer a baby portrait program, it just has a more relxed structure. For example, parents on a limited budget may only have me photograph their Mommy & Me session and not feel weird about not completing the entire baby program with Spence Photography. However, there is still the “prize” at the end for parents that do choose to complete the program according to my guidelines.

My Photographic Style

My photographic style ranges from traditional to contemporary then trascends to fine art. I specialize in creating fine art images of babies, children, families, and maternity. During a portrait session I will create “crowd pleasing” images, but my passion is just letting my subjects “BE”. Every child is beautiful, every relationship is magical...let me show you what I see.

Photography Education

Honestly, I only took one photography class in college...and it was back in the film days! My best photography education comes from trial & error, reading speciality books, and attending photography conferences and seminars...then it’s back to trial & error when trying to master a new “look”. I think photographers spend more money on continuing education than any other profession.
Thoreau Quote

This is my new favorite quote! It empowers me to make my own work, family, and personal schedule. It allows me to say “Yes” more often because I have a better sense of balance in my life, and it encourages me to say “No” when I feel overloaded.

You must have tons of photographs of your daughters...

Unfortunately, my girls do not like modeling for me as much as I’d like them to. The problem is I want pretty pictures too, so I push them too hard.
